The athleticism is there, but he needs to get more comfortable playing on the perimeter and will be best served adding a respectable outside shot to his game. I think Kawhi can be a lockdown defender and strong rebounder at SF and maybe some minutes at PF. It is very questionable due to his size whether his down low offensive game will translate in the NBA, he desperately needs to add some range and is at risk to being a liability on the offensive end. He has the size of a SF and game of a PF. Also, a very efficient offensive game from 15 ft in. He shows great fundamentals and tenacity on the glass, at 6ft7 225lbs he was one of the nation’s top rebounders 2 years in a row. He is unique for a star player to being so committed on the defensive end. Leonard is a great athlete and was a dominant force in the Mountain West conference and star player on a top 10 team all year. Player profile submitted by: Mike Saxton of Īn intriguing, yet difficult prospect to project. I would compare his game to someone like Trevor Ariza. He needs to make himself more assertive by demanding the ball from his teammates. One concern I do have is that Kawhi sometimes seems to disappear on the offensive end. He uses his length and athleticism very well to create turnovers and quickly turns them into points in transition. Defensively, he shows great promise at being an elite stopper. He does show nice form on the jumper, so with extra work in the gym, he should be able to improve from the perimeter before he gets to the league. He possesses a good mid-range jump shot, but is inconsistent from the perimeter. He's a strong finisher in the open floor as well. He is also a solid ball handler in transition that can make plays for himself and his running mates. Coaches will love his ability to quickly get the ball in transition with his ability to grab rebounds and start fast breaks himself. His ability to attack the boards on both ends allows him to get a lot of second chance points on the offensive glass. At 6'7 he would be a 2 or 3 in the NBA, and the ability to grab ten rebounds a game is a great attribute to have. His ability to rebound for his size is what sticks out the most in his game. He is only a sophomore and is still quite raw. Leonard has shown great potential to become a solid NBA perimeter player. Player profile submitted by: Vince Gonzalez If he projects to improve like most players do, he'll get drafted somewhere from 17-25, but if he is able to improve his jump shot a decent amount without sacrificing any other of his abilities, he could go late lottery with ease. Leonard has an inconsistent two-point jump shot and a very poor three-point jump shot, however, that are the only reasons he won't be drafted that high. 2011 Draft Profile - Kawhi LeonardKawhi Leonard has the length, tenacity, and energy of a top ten pick, to go along with being one of the top rebounders in the nation despite being a mere 6'7" freshman.
